History research

My name is Abigail Adams and I am from the San Luis Valley, Colorado. I currently do not have a major, I am a high school student seeking an Associate’s Degree. My hobbies include running and swimming for fun and for sports. An idea that I stand for that is being perfectly expressed in this project is that stories need to be told, history and the past should not be silenced, disregarded, or censored.

Mi nombre es Abigail Adams y soy del Valle de San Luis, Colorado. Actualmente no tengo una especialización. Soy  estudiante de secundaria y espero obtener un Diplomado. Mis pasatiempos incluyen correr y nadar por diversión y como deporte. Una idea que apoyo y que se expresa perfectamente en este proyecto es que las historias deben ser contadas; la historia y el pasado no deben ser silenciados, ignorados ni censurados.

I am from Broomfield, Colorado, but I was born in Lubbock, Texas. I attend Adams State University where I am majoring in Elementary Education and get to play softball. Some of my hobbies include traveling and spending time with my family and friends.

My name is Hannah, and I am a Secondary English Education Major. I am from Houston, Texas, but have loved living in the valley so far. My main goal right now is to get into law school, so I spend my summers studying for the LSAT and crocheting a lot of things I don’t have space for.

My name is Crystal Gonzales, I am an English Education Major. I am one of the project leaders. I grew up in California and moved to the San Luis Valley when I was a teen. I met my amazing husband here and we have five awesome kids who keep us very busy. Our family is incredibly important to me; and I value preserving the traditions that we’ve built together.

Me llamo Crystal Gonzales y estudio Filología Inglesa. Soy una de las líderes de este proyecto. Crecí en California y me mudé al Valle de San Luis cuando era una adolescente. Conocí a mi increíble esposo aquí y tenemos cinco hijos impresionantes, quienes nos mantienen muy ocupados. Nuestra familia es muy importante para mí, y yo valoro preservar las tradiciones que hemos construido juntos.

I am Emily Gonzales, and my role in this project is that of the photographer, as well as the author of my grandfather's story. I was born and raised in the San Luis Valley and continue my education as an Exercise Science major and Coaching minor. I am constantly involved with the community, and try to give back as much as I can. Most recently, I became the head coach of the Valley’s gymnastics program, and I am giving back to the community in the same way that I grew up, through the sport of gymnastics.

Soy Emily Gonzales y mi rol en este proyecto es el de fotógrafa, además de autora de la historia de mi abuelo. Nací y crecí en el Valle de San Luis y continúo mi formación en Ciencias del Ejercicio, con una subespecialización en Entrenamiento. Me involucro constantemente con la comunidad y trato de contribuir al máximo. Recientemente, me capacité para ser la entrenadora principal del programa de gimnasia del Valle y estoy contribuyendo a mi comunidad de la misma manera en la que crecí, a través del deporte de la gimnasia.

Hello, my name is Noemi Hernandez, and I am one of the web designers for this project, as well as one of the creators of the audiobook. I’m from Colorado Springs, Colorado and I am attending Adams State University, majoring in Psychology and minoring in English and Spanish. I enjoy trying new things and foods, listening to music, and spending time outdoors.

Hi, I'm Lieke! I'm a student-athlete from Nijmegen, the Netherlands. The San Luis Valley has been my home for about 4 years now. It's a place I keep falling in love with more and more every year. I’m majoring in Cellular/Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, but I love taking non-science classes to get a different perspective on the world. I run cross country and track for Adams State, which is why I felt personally drawn to record Joe I Vigil's story.

¡Hola, soy Lieke! Soy un estudiante-atleta de Nijmegen,  Países Bajos. El Valle de San Luis ha sido mi hogar por aproximadamente 4 años. Es un lugar del que me enamoro más y más cada año. Estoy estudiando Biología Celular/Molecular y Bioquímica, pero me encanta tomar clases fuera del ámbito científico para obtener una perspectiva diferente del mundo. Corro campo a través y pista para Adams State, y por eso me sentí personalmente motivado a documentar la historia de Joe I Vigil.

My name is Hayle Larimore. I was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I have lived in the San Luis Valley all of my life. Around here, things can be different. Instead of big cities with faceless people, we have tiny communities that can barely be considered towns. Tiny towns that build character, where everyone knows everyone. My hobbies have always been books and literature. This made me continue on in my life to become an English Literature major.

En lugar de grandes ciudades llenas de gente desconocida, tenemos pequeñas comunidades que apenas pueden considerarse pueblos. Son pueblitos que forman el carácter, donde todos se conocen. Mis pasatiempos siempre han sido los libros y la literatura. Esto me llevó a estudiar la carrera de Literatura Inglesa.
